  • "12 Plus One" Exhibit: The exhibit "12 Plus One" is on display in the Sam Houston Memorial Museum and Republic of Texas Presidential Library. This exhibit presents the results of the museum's ongoing investigation of the twelve people named on Sam Houston's probate inventory from 1863 as well as the one who fled to Mexico but later returned to live out the rest of his days in Houston. Despite having different paths to get there, all of these individuals were born into slavery and eventually found themselves supporting the Houston family by working. They carried out tasks that were crucial to Sam Houston's legacy's success up until the point at which they were granted freedom following independence.
